About the event
Eel Pie Island Race plan:
Saturday 20th May
The entry will close by Sunday 14th May!
If you have a team you can manage it yourself and add your Cox and team members under this post.
Prizes: We award the trophies that John Dilworth made, they are for taking photos with only.
The Race:
The race is two laps of Eel Pie island against the clock, the race is done in cutters to make all teams equal. Our cutters must have a club cox. Start and finish point level would be the polls by the beach. A boat is then timed from it crossing the start/finish point at the beginning, the time is recorded again at the end of the first lap, then again at the end of the second with the second lap score being the team’s final time. The race is split into Female, Mixed and crews.
people can row down in a skerry and cutter, but the race is in cutters, please check Wix / Space App and book for 10:00 am row from the club.
At 11:00 am there is a Cox briefing by White Swan (hopefully by Ian Chappell)
Important Note: people who row to white swan should commit to bring the same boat back to the club after the Race!!
We will Launch two boats, starts with Ladies (Always first 😉 ) , we will ask boat 1 they start in 5 mins time, boat 2 in 10 minutes time (5 mins after the other one)
Time both laps (prize for fastest single lap!)
Safety:
Boats carry a boathook and throw line; No changing places in the boat when racing; observe the rules of the river (colregs); be aware of boats coming to/from Twickenham.
hire craft such as paddleboards and canoes may not understand the rules; if the chasing boat catches the first boat it must give way: the most dangerous point is the turn at the upstream end of Eel Pie Island - the cox must take this into account when making their turn (note: if the we notice any vessel proceeding upstream on the Surrey side of Eel Pie we will notify coxes on the water by radio).
Each boat equipped with radio provided by myself.
I need two volunteers from ladies team to help once mens team on board!
